Remote Online Notarization (RON) is fully authorized under Virginia law and recognized nationwide. Virginia was the first state to pass RON legislation in 2011, and as long as the notary is physically located in Virginia, documents may be notarized for signers anywhere in the world. Under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution, notarial acts performed in Virginia are generally valid in all other states, even those that do not permit their own notaries to perform RON. The federal ESIGN Act also affirms the legal validity of electronic signatures across the United States. While most institutions accept properly executed remote notarizations, some—such as courts, title companies, or government agencies—may impose their own requirements on which documents they accept electronically. Certain documents, such as wills, vital records, and some court filings, are not eligible for RON under Virginia law. For this reason, Virginia Verified always recommends confirming with the receiving party that they accept remote notarization for your specific document.
At Virginia Verified, we make the closing process simple, secure, and stress-free. An experienced, NNA Certified, Virginia-based Notary Signing Agent is available to guide you through your online closing with professionalism and care. Using secure Remote Online Notarization (RON), you can review, sign, and finalize your documents without the hassle of in-person meetings or unnecessary delays.
With Virginia Verified, you can count on:
Please note: Certain documents, such as wills, vital records (birth, death, marriage certificates), and some court-issued filings, cannot be notarized online under Virginia law. Contact us if you are unsure whether your document qualifies.
